Taylor agrees two-year Vale deal

Rob Taylor has signed a new two-year contract with Port Vale, keeping him at Vale Park until 2012.

Taylor, who turns 25 on Saturday, has made 47 appearances for Vale since his move from non-league Nuneaton, scoring nine goals for the League Two club.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'm chuffed to bits to be honest. I was quite surprised when the manager approached me, but I've done well this year.

"I'm looking forward to the next two-and-a-half years at Vale Park."

Taylor was signed by Lee Sinnott in May 2008, but after scoring on his league debut at Luton, he struggled to make an impact at first-team level.

Under present manager Micky Adams, Taylor has been playing on the left side of midfield or as a striker, although he had previously been used as a left-back.

He has scored six times this campaign, including the winning goal in Vale's 2-1 win at Grimsby on 28 December.

Taylor was also sent off in the game at Blundell Park, and so will be suspended for the trip to League Two leaders Rochdale on Saturday.
