Port Vale's Kris Taylor comfortable at centre-back

Taylor has signed a deal with Port Vale until the end of the season

Port Vale left-back Kris Taylor has said he is happy to move into the centre of defence when they host Chesterfield at Vale Park on Saturday.

The Valiants will be without John McCombe, who is suspended after his red card in the 1-1 draw at Northampton.

Taylor, 25, told BBC Radio Stoke: "If the gaffer (Micky Adams) wants to play me there, obviously I'm ready to go.

"Playing with three at the back, it's not an awful lot different to playing as a conventional left-back."

He continued: "You're going to deal with more long balls and more crosses, but when we've got the ball it's very similar to playing at left-back.

"It's a little bit more challenging because it's something that doesn't come quite as natural, but it's what the management want to do for that particular game."

The switch to centre-back is something that Taylor has done already this season, having covered for Gareth Owen whilst he recovered from a fractured cheekbone.

Vale will be looking for their first home win in League Two since defeating Grimsby 4-0 at Vale Park on 5 September.
