Taylor agrees new Vale contract

Defender Kris Taylor will stay at Port Vale for the rest of the season after agreeing an extension to his short-term contract with boss Micky Adams.

"I'll sign the contract on Monday," he told BBC Radio Stoke. "I've made it clear that I've enjoyed my time here.

"I like working under the manager and the players are great so I'm glad it's all been sorted out."

The 25-year-old scored the winning goal in Saturday's 2-1 derby victory over local rivals Crewe Alexandra.

"After last week's game at Shrewsbury, where I was disappointed that I didn't score, to get the goal was a real bonus," added Taylor.

"But the important thing was that the team managed to get the three points."

Vale moved up to 12th in the table with their victory at the Alexandra Stadium.

And Taylor, who has twice won promotion from League Two (with Walsall in 2007 and then with Hereford a year later) believes the team are genuine contenders for promotion if they can continue their good form.

"I don't see why we can't do it," he said. "I don't think there's an awful lot in the division. Anyone can beat anyone.

"We have to keep putting in the same kind of performances every week.

"We've won three on the bounce now and it's all about taking the same application and attitude into the game against Cheltenham."

After successive wins on the road at Shrewsbury and Crewe, Adams' men will take on stumbling Cheltenham next Saturday looking for their first league win at Vale Park in four games (24 October, 1500 BST).
