Vale keeper Anyon begins comeback

Joe Anyon
Anyon has made over 100 appearances for Port Vale

Port Vale goalkeeper Joe Anyon came through his first 90 minutes of football unscathed on Wednesday night - six months after breaking his leg.

The 22-year-old fractured his leg against Chesterfield in March and made his comeback in the reserves 1-1 draw against Shrewsbury.

Anyon told BBC Radio Stoke: "Just to come through 90 minutes without any aches and pains is brilliant.

"Its been a long road and we're finally near the end of it."

Last season's player of the year has now set his sights on a return to the first team but admits forcing current number one Chris Martin out of the team won't be easy.

"I want to be in the team again, I've got to up my game and challenge him in training all I can do is keep my head down and work hard and listen to the manager."

Port Vale manager Micky Adams has ruled out any quick return to the first team for his most experienced goalkeeper but has not dismissed his chances of a place on the bench for the clubs game at Notts County on Saturday.

"Is Joe ready for the first team yet? The answer to that is no."
