Adams to keep tabs on Tomlinson

Port Vale manager Micky Adams is interested in signing former Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson.

The Vale boss has two teenage keepers available to him in Chris Martin and Daniel Lloyd Weston as his number one Joe Anyon recovers from a broken leg.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I don't think it's an ideal position to be in to have no experience to call on in a what is a key role."

Injury-plagued Tomlinson, 24, was released in the summer.

Adams added: "Everybody is aware that Joe Anyon is still out injured. I would think it is a major doubt now whether he is going to be fit for the start of the season.

"I am covering all the bases so I had a look at Stuart Tomlinson and hopefully he will be in training this week and we can monitor the situation."

Tomlinson made 28 appearances for Crewe after coming through their youth system, but was released at the end of last season.

He could line up for the Valiants again in Wednesday's friendly at home to Wolves.

Adams is also considering signing former Walsall and Hereford left-back Kris Taylor.

However, he has ended his interest in former Millwall and Brighton left-back Zoumana Bakayoko who turned out for Vale at Telford last week.
