Vale manager interviews to begin

Port Vale will hold their first interviews for the vacant managerial position at Vale Park on Monday.

"There are some good names among the applications and we'll sort the shortlist out," Vale chairman Bill Bratt told BBC Radio Stoke.

"We have also approached a couple of people, and we're waiting for replies from them. We need experience and someone who knows the league."

Dean Glover was relieved of his duties after Vale's final game of the season.

Glover's seven-month spell in charge was ill-fated, and he has been offered a position within the youth set-up.

Several clubs in League Two, such as Chesterfield and newly-promoted Burton, are looking to make managerial appointments, and Bratt has admitted that they are in competition with those clubs.

"There are people that you wouldn't take on, and quite a few you would," said Bratt. "Everyone is going to be chasing the same thing.

"That's why you have a shortlist. If you miss out on the first two, you move on to number three and number four, and only if you're very unlucky do you miss out on them all."

Meanwhile, Bratt has confirmed that Vale's former youth team coach Andy Porter is not a contender for the role.
