New boss must have desire - Dodds

Port Vale midfielder Louis Dodds believes the club need to appoint a manager with fresh ideas.

The former Leicester player scored in Saturday's 2-1 win against Barnet, in what was Dean Glover's last game in charge of the Valiants.

Dodds, 22, told BBC Radio Stoke: "I think we need someone in with lots of desire and passion.

"I'm not saying Dean didn't have that, but maybe just a fresh face, with new ideas will push us on next season."

Glover, 45, was told on Thursday that he would be relieved of his role as first-team manager, although he has been offered another coaching position within the club.

I'll be nervous to see who the new manager is, and then excited to come back in for pre-season

Glover's son, Danny, scored the other goal in the win at Underhill and Dodds was pleased to see the two celebrate together.

"They've gone through a lot together. It was nice to see and I'd like to say all the best to Dean in the future," added Dodds.

"Hopefully I'll get the chance to work with him again in the future."

He has admitted that the club needs a new start and is hopeful that a new manager will take the club towards promotion from League Two next season.

"I'll be nervous to see who the new manager is, and then excited to come back in for pre-season," said Dodds.

"It's been a poor season and the fans have been great for us, so hopefully they'll stay with us for next season."
