Prosser has featured at centre-back and left-back for Vale this season
Port Vale defender Luke Prosser has set his sights on earning a new contract as he prepares to return to the team in place of the injured Gareth Owen.
Prosser's current deal runs out at the end of the season, but the 20-year-old is hopeful of staying on at Vale Park.
"Someone's misfortune is another person's good luck. I've got a massive chance now," he told BBC Radio Stoke.
"We've got games comindg thick and fast so I'll get a lot of games under my belt to get back to how I was playing."
Prosser has made 27 appearances for Vale since making his debut against Brighton in April 2008.
He is expected replace Owen in Dean Glover's line-up for Saturday's home game against Darlington.
Owen was stretchered off with an ankle ligament injury in Vale's 1-0 home defeat by Dagenham and Redbridge on Tuesday, and could miss the rest of the season.
