Marshall surprised by Vale move

Paul Marshall admits that he was shocked at the speed of his move from Manchester City to Port Vale.

Marshall, 19, was signed by Vale boss Dean Glover on Friday morning, making his debut for Vale in the 0-0 draw at Bournemouth barely 24 hours later.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I got a call from Dean Glover asking if I could come and sign before midday so I could play.

"I didn't know many of the names, but I think I did well. I battled well and we did well to get the point."

Midfield man Marshall, who had only just returned from a month's loan with Blackpool, started in the centre of the Vale midfield, playing his first full 90 minutes of his professional career.

Vale boss Dean Glover said: "He finished the game a lot stronger, but it's not easy for him to come in because he hasn't trained with the team.

"You can see the quality he's got. He's got to get an understanding with our players and hopefully he can grow in stature."

Marshall, who will stay at Vale Park for a month, added: "Hopefully I can get a couple of goals under my belt, set up a few as well and hopefully we can pick up a few wins."

Vale, 17th in League Two, are 10 points clear of danger with 13 games of the campaign to go - ahead of Tuesday night's home date with Dagenham & Redbridge (1945 GMT).
