Richards to show Vale his best

Marc Richards says Port Vale fans have yet to see his best form after his first season at Vale Park was plagued by injury.

The 25-year-old made 20 starts following his move from Barnsley and scored five goals - all of which came in his last seven games.

Richards told BBC Radio Stoke: "I think Vale fans have seen glimpses but I was still catching up on my match fitness.

"If I can stay fit during pre-season, I can hopefully hit the ground running."

Richards has spent the majority of his career playing in the Championship and League One and has admitted he would prefer to be playing at a higher level.

He added: "It's definitely something I'm happy to do (to play in League Two), but I think it is a little bit of a step down even though it's a good level still.

"We'll try and do the right things. We'll try and play football but you will get the odd team who will try and lump it forward.

"Port Vale won't be that sort of team. We're going to be a passing team who want to play good football and score lots of goals."

Vale start their League Two campaign on 9 August at Luton Town, who were also relegated from League One in May.
