Peter Reid pays tribute to redundant Argyle staff

Plymouth manager Peter Reid
Reid left his position as Stoke assistant manager to take over at Home Park

Plymouth Argyle manager Peter Reid has paid tribute to the staff at Home Park who have lost their jobs as a result of the club going into administration.

Having beaten Swindon Town 1-0 on Tuesday Reid dedicated the result to the club's former employees.

He told BBC Devon: "It's been a really difficult time, we've had redundancies including my PA Sue Vallins who's a smashing lady.

"That was for her, the lads are really close and that was a result for her."

Vallins worked at Plymouth Argyle for around 10 years as both PA to the manager and liaising with the players, helping them settle into life in the city.

A total of 16 staff have been made redundant since Plymouth went into administration last week, while the club's city centre shop has been closed.

Buyers are currently being sought by the administrator Brendan Guilfoyle, with around £3m cited as the figure needed to keep the club afloat until the end of the season.

Reid continued: "It's been a hard couple of days because you're talking about people's livelihoods - good people and this club has had to do that.

"I'm not saying we didn't have to do it but the human cost doesn't bear thinking about."
