Argyle wrap up Sheridan loan deal

Cillian Sheridan
Sheridan scored four goals for Celtic last season.

Plymouth Argyle have signed Republic of Ireland Under-21 international striker Cillian Sheridan on a six-month loan deal from Celtic.

Sheridan, 20, hit four goals in 16 games for Celtic last season, moving to Motherwell on loan in February.

Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock described Sheridan as 'big and quick', with the added bonus of being left footed.

"He did very well at Motherwell last season and I feel that he would benefit the team," Sturrock told BBC Devon.

Sheridan can play both up front and on the left wing, and at 6ft 3in the Irishman could be an alternative to Rory Fallon as a target man.

Despite summer-signing Bradley Wright-Phillips being ruled out injured until the end of September, Sturrock said he was "starting to put together a nice hub of forward type players."

Sheridan said he had "learnt a lot" from his time at Celtic and is now hoping to get even more experience under his belt in Plymouth.

He said: "It benefits all of us really, it's good for me to come down and get game time, do well and then at the end of the year go back to Celtic and play for them every week."
