Wright-Phillips signs for Argyle

Wright-Phillips prepared for Plymouth life

Plymouth have signed striker Bradley Wright-Phillips on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old's contract at Southampton came to an end in June and the former Manchester City striker has signed a two-year-deal.

Wright-Phillips is Plymouth's first major arrival since a Japanese-led consortium took over the club at the start of July.

The 24-year-old told BBC Spotlight the move to Home Park was a "big step" for him in his career.

"It doesn't look like Plymouth is a massive club but you try telling the people down here," he said.

"I started off at Manchester City, but the manager thought I should go out and play more games in the Championship, which I did. I think that was good for me because I played more than I ever would have at City.

"I had a great time but it didn't work out how I would have wanted it to.

"I would have loved to have lit it up a bit more at Southampton but, at the end, my time at the club just faded out. I wasn't playing much and it was time to leave.

"I've come to Plymouth to get back on track, get some more games and play up front."
