Sturrock hands challenge to Timar

Timar has been challenged to regain his place in the team

Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock has said he wants Hungary international central defender Krisztian Timar to stay at Home Park and win back his place.

Timar, 29, was the club's player of the season in 2008 but only made 11 appearances this term after losing his place to Craig Cathcart.

Sturrock told the club's website: "The challenge for Kris now is to put all his energy into winning his place back.

"He's had an unfortunate time with some things that were out of his control."

He added: "The injury [in the final game of 2007/08 at Wolves when he required a metal plate in his skull] coming when he had just enjoyed the season of his life was an example of football biting you in the backside.

"Then he was sent off and the form of Marcel Seip and Craig Cathcart meant they kept the shirts."

Cathcart was on loan at Home Park from Premier League champions Manchester United.
