Newcastle United, and one other Premier League club, are in talks to try to sign Plymouth Argyle's promising young striker Aaron Spear.
The 15-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising players to come out of the club's academy for some time.
"We don't want Aaron to leave us, but he is determined to speak to these clubs," Argyle chief executive Michael Dunford told the club website.
Argyle would be due compensation from any club that signs Spear.
Meanwhile, another of Argyle's youngsters, 16-year-old Liam Head, has been put on standby for the England Under-17's side, for the prestigious Nordic Tournament in Sweden between 23 July and 3 August.
Head has made five starts and two substitute appearances for the England Under-16's team, and is due to sign as an apprentice for Argyle at the end of June.
