Plymouth Argyle defender Matt Villis has joined Torquay United in a 12-month loan deal.
Argyle boss Bobby Williamson wants to keep the highly-rated player, 20, but is keen for him to go on loan so he can gain first-team experience.
United coach Leroy Rosenior said: "I tried to get Matt here last season, but he was not available.
"Bobby Williamson has been very helpful and I hope the deal works out to our mutual benefit."
Rosenior added: "Matt will give us cover in the centre and right-back position vacated by Reuben Hazell."
Meanwhile, Torquay have agreed compensation terms with Plymouth over the registration of ex-centre of excellence teenager Clay Bond.
It means United will receive compensation if Bond is sold on to another club.
