Bernard stays on
Former Scottish international Paul Bernard will see out the remainder of the season with Plymouth Argyle after agreeing a new deal.
Bernard started training with Plymouth in late November after 27 months on the sidelines with an career-threatening Achilles injury. The 30-year-old did enough to impress Pilgrims boss Paul Sturrock and signed on non-contract terms in December. If the midfielder continues his progress, he could be rewarded with an extended deal in the summer. Argyle chairman Paul Stapleton told the Plymouth Evening Herald: "Personal terms have been agreed. It's just a case of getting the contract signed." Bernard, a former Oldham and Aberdeen player, was twice capped for his country and made 15 appearances for Scotland at Under-21 level. Sturrock said: "He has still got that yard of pace to find after his long time out of the game. "But that only comes with training and match practice." To date, Bernard has played four times for Argyle's second string in the Combination League, netting twice. He has also made one Division Two appearance - in December's 1-0 home win over Notts County.
