Gary Johnson hits out at Craig Bellamy deal

Johnson says he is close friends with Cardiff boss Dave Jones

Peterborough United boss Gary Johnson believes Craig Bellamy's loan move to Cardiff from Manchester City is a step towards a "feeder club" system.

Posh host Bellamy's Bluebirds in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.

Johnson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We have to be careful because it's the first sign of having feeder clubs.

"Eventually all these players that have got nowhere to go, because they are not in the squad of 25, have to go somewhere at some stage."

Wales captain Bellamy, 31, left Manchester City after being told he would not be among their 25-man Premier League squad this season and was linked to Tottenham, Sunderland, Stoke, Fulham and Celtic among others.

Johnson added: "Maybe then they have to relax the rules about how many loans you can have.

"All of a sudden the floodgates are open. Personally I don't think that's good for the game."

Bellamy rubber-stamped his season-long move to Dave Jones' Cardiff earlier this week and Johnson admits he is uncomfortable with the way it has come about.

"It's a coup. He lives next door to Dave Jones, he's a Cardiff fan," he said.

"I don't like the situation because I think it's poor.

"What it means is if you've got friends in the game then you can get some very good loans, because those clubs are obviously not paying the wages of those players."

Johnson's only loan signing this season has been for Wolves winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.
