Peterborough United have completed the signing of Shrewsbury defender Kelvin Langmead on a three-year deal.

The 25-year-old has been on Posh boss Gary Johnson's radar for some time, with the clubs having agreed a fee a week ago.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I've been chasing him for a while, when I was at Bristol as well.

"I thought he was better than the division he was playing in. He's only 25 but plays like a 30-year-old."

He added: "The main reason I took him, not only because he's a quality footballer, but because he's a leader.

"I think at the back we haven't really got any talkers among our defenders."

Langmead joined Shrewsbury from Preston in 2004 as a striker, converting to centre half in 2006, making 227 appearances.

He made only one first team appearance for North End after signing youth terms in 2002, but gained experience through loan spells with Tamworth, Carlisle and Kidderminster.
