Posh defender Gabby Zakuani set to play through pain
Zakuani has made 18 appearances for Posh this season
Peterborough United defender Gabby Zakuani says he will do all he can to be fit for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
With Craig Morgan and Ryan Bennett both suspended, Posh are short of central defensive options.
Zakuani told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I'll play through the pain for the team and I've had a pain killing injection to speed up the process.
"I am going to all lengths to make sure I'm fit enough to play on Saturday."
Morgan will serve a three-match suspension, while Bennett will be banned for just one game for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
Zakuani has missed the past three matches with a groin strain, but is confident he will be available for selection against Wednesday. The 23-year-old has been struggling with the problem since late October.
"As soon as I do any work where I get a sweat on, the next day I get a lot of swelling on my groin," Zakuani added.
"But I know the team needs me and I will put myself on the line."
Zakuani had been used as a make-shift right-back prior to the arrival of Kerrea Gilbert on-loan from Arsenal and he admits playing at full-back was a struggle for him.
"I had a word with the manager and told him that I want to play in the centre because that is my position," he said.
"Everyone would agree it's my best position and he was happy with that."
