Ferguson plays down Peterborough transfer targets

Preston boss Darren Ferguson has moved to allay fears he could return to former club Peterborough to poach players for his new side.

Ferguson was named Preston boss last Wednesday just two months after leaving London Road and has already been linked with winger George Boyd.

Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I'm not planning on doing anything in the transfer market as it stands.

"I'm not going to be making any bids because I need to assess the squad."

Ferguson revealed he is delighted to be back in work with Preston, but says he has no hard feelings over his Posh departure.

He left Posh with the club struggling at the bottom of the Championship table, following promotion from League One.

"Everyone in football knows what 'mutual consent' is and we had different ideas about where the football club should go," he said.

"I've heard some outrageous rumours about why I left, but there was nothing untoward about it."

Ferguson says his relationship with Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony remains strong despite their parting of ways.

"I haven't spoken to Darragh, but there won't be any hard feelings between us when we meet," he said.
