Peterborough United have completed the signing of Histon midfielder Josh Simpson for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old, who joined on loan in November, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at London Road.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It's brilliant news and I've enjoyed my couple of months at the club.

"When Darren Ferguson left it was a stressful time, but I didn't do myself any harm with the Cardiff game which has given me plenty of self belief."

Simpson was originally signed by Ferguson, but made his Posh debut as a late substitute in Mark Cooper's first game in charge at Sheffield United.

He struggled for first team action in the following weeks, but scored twice as Posh fought back from four goals down to claim a 4-4 draw at Cardiff over Christmas.

"It was a great game to be involved in. It was a magical moment and the highlight of my career, that's for sure," he said.

Simpson started his career at Cambridge City before spending a season with Cambridge United.

After a year at the Abbey, Simpson returned to City and moved on to Histon in the summer of 2008.

"I'm looking forward to the future and hopefully I can establish myself in the first team," he said.

Meanwhile, defender Jamie Day has extended his loan deal with Dagenham and Redbridge until the end of January.
