Hyde surprised by Ferguson exit

Hyde is currently with League Two side Barnet

Former Peterborough star Micah Hyde has admitted he was surprised to hear boss Darren Ferguson had left the club.

Ferguson parted company with Posh on Tuesday after almost three years in the London Road hotseat.

Hyde told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I know the expectations are high at the club but I didn't think he would move on right now.

"I didn't expect them to part ways at this time, I thought they would go to the end of the season."

Hyde was a key part of Ferguson's Posh side which won promotion from League Two in 2008.

He feels talk of promotion to the Premier League in their first season of Championship football put undue pressure on his former boss.

"Consolidation should always have been their aim, I think expectations maybe got a bit too high," he said.

"The people in charge have been talking about back-to-back promotions into the Premier League, so maybe that was a factor."

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has indicated that he intends to hire an up-and-coming manager to replace Ferguson.

Hyde says they may be better off with a more experienced alternative with a good knowledge of the Championship.

"I'm not too sure what they are looking for, but a lack of experience must have played some part as to where they are in the league at the moment," he said.

"Overall I think Darren was doing alright, so you would think that having let him go they must want to try a different approach."
