Jamie Day came through the Peterborough youth ranks
Peterborough United defender Jamie Day has admitted his long spell on the sidelines after surgery has been far from easy.
The 22-year-old had bones in his back fused together in early November and is expected to miss the rest of the 2008/09 campaign.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It was a big disappointment that I've had to miss the majority of this season.
"I'm not going to say it's been easy because it hasn't."
The left-back was a mainstay in Posh's promotion winning side from League Two last season and is optimistic of returning to action earlier than had been predicted.
He added: "I'm young and fit and hopefully I can heal quicker than the average person.
"I'm going to see the surgeon in January and I think he'll be able to give me a timescale.
"Hopefully I can get back quicker than what's anticipated."
