Welsh international Mark Jones has fractured a cheekbone, delaying his move from Wrexham to Peterborough.
Wrexham confirmed Jones' medical at London Road has been delayed by the injury, putting back the move to July.
Posh manager Darren Ferguson told the Peterborough Evening News: "Mark got caught in the face by a bat.
"He went to hospital and they found the damage. He will have to have a few weeks of rest while he recovers because even running will impact on his face."
Ferguson added: "We can get a medical done in that time. It means he won't be able to come to Spain with us at the end of next week and it will be touch and go whether he is ready for the start of the season.
Jones, 23, was transfer-listed following the Dragons' relegation from the Football League and was due to sign for the Posh in the next few days.
The midfielder has won two Wales caps in an injury-ravaged career and Ferguson says he turned down bigger money offers to agree terms with the League One new boys.
"There is no doubt he is a good player and he just need to get back playing football again.
"He has made an excellent footballing decision to come here because he could have gone to other clubs for more money.
"We have got him on a free and his wages are not astronomical either."
