Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Gary Harkins has signed for Partick Thistle after leaving Grimsby Town.
David Rowson is hoping to win a deal with his former club
The 22-year-old impressed on trial and put pen to paper on a one-year contract after Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Ayr United in a friendly at Firhill.
Harkins told Thistle's website: "I'm delighted to get back up the road to Scotland and to get back to enjoying my football again.
"I hadn't been happy since moving to Grimsby and was a bit homesick."
Harkins started his career with Blackburn and had loan spells with Huddersfield Town, Bury and Blackpool before making 20 first-team appearances for League Two outfit Grimsby last season.
Grimsby were fine about me coming up to Scotland
"I had been down in England since I was 16 and that was fine when I was a YTS lad and surrounded with friends," he said.
"It was a bit different at Grimsby, where the rest of the lads had families and you get a bit lonely in those circumstances.
"Grimsby were fine about me coming up to Scotland and training with Thistle in an attempt to win a contract."
Former Aberdeen, Livingston, Stoke City, Partick, Northampton and Darlington midfielder David Rowson is also on trial with the Glasgow club.
The 29-year-old, who spent the 2003-04 season at Firhill, played against Ayr after ending a season with Boston United.
