Oxford United move is 'an option' for Steven MacLean

Plymouth striker Steven MacLean has said making his loan deal at Oxford United permanent is 'an option'.

MacLean, 28, has scored one goal in four appearances for the U's, and his stay at the Kassam Stadium is due to expire 15 January.

The Scot told BBC Oxford: "It's definitely an option we're looking into. We should have news in January.

"Oxford are a Championship club in the making and it's up to us to push them in that direction."

MacLean went on to reveal that he has not received all his wages before Christmas due to problems at his parent club, Plymouth.

The Devon outfit, who are thought to be between £7m and £9m in debt, must pay outstanding tax by 9 February, or face liquidation.

"There is a rule that Oxford can't pay straight to me for some reason, so I am in the same boat as the Plymouth lads," he said.

"We've had some money - but not much. Hopefully the Professional Footballers' Association will step in but we just have to keep going.

"The kids have got their presents. They have not missed out. It's not ideal but it's not just about the players, it's about the office staff and the whole club as well."
