'Work to do' for Wilder at Oxford

Chris Wilder
Wilder has already been linked to other Football League clubs this season

Chairman Kelvin Thomas says Chris Wilder still has a "lot of work to do" at Oxford after confirming his manager will not take over at Peterborough.

Wilder, who has been Oxford manager since December, had become the bookmakers' favourite to become Posh boss after Darren Ferguson's departure.

Thomas told BBC Oxford: "There was a conversation about Chris, but it won't be going any further.

"He and I have spoken and agree there's a lot of work still do do here."

He continued: "Chris has done very well. We expect him to be linked with other clubs and we deal with them as they come along, but he wants to be part of some success here.

"It's a compliment to the club and to Chris personally. You are going to get more approaches when you are top of the league rather than bottom."

Wilder has revitalised Oxford since his arrival, only losing four league games in 11 months, and has led them to an eight-point lead at the top of the Blue Square Premier.

He was linked to former club Rotherham in September.
