Oxford United have signed York City striker Craig Farrell on loan until the end of the season.

Farrell, 26, started his career at Leeds before spells at Carlisle and Exeter City.

The forward was taken out of the team for York's FA Trophy match at Kidderminster on Saturday when the deal with Oxford was finalised.

Farrell is in line to make his Oxford debut in Sunday's Blue Square Premier clash with Lewes.

But he must wait to form a partnership with United's 15-goal top scorer James Constable, who misses the Lewes game because of suspension.

York City manager Martin Foyle told BBC Radio York: "Craig wanted to play games and at the moment I couldn't guarantee him games.

"He's contracted until next season and I understand the situation that he wants to play games.

"Chris Wilder (Oxford manager) had him before. Whether he'll get games at Oxford, I don't know, but he's there until the end of the season.

"We took the decision to let him go until the end of the season but hopefully I can get somebody else in on the back of it."
