Oxford United's Sam Deering will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his fibula and rupturing ankle ligaments in the defeat by Salisbury.
The winger scored the U's only goal of the game in the 2-1 loss on Boxing Day before being stretchered off after a challenge with Luke Ruddick.
Manager Chris Wilder said: "I was surprised there was no card. It was a dreadful challenge, if I am honest.
"It is disappointing for that to happen for such a promising player."
Wilder confirmed that Deering will require an operation, which he will undergo as soon as possible.
It is not yet known how long Deering will be out of action.
