Former Argentina international striker Ramon Diaz has been unveiled as the new manager at Oxford United.

The 45-year-old takes over on a six-month deal from Graham Rix, who was relieved of his duties after a poor run of results.

Diaz, who led River Plate to five titles, is bringing two coaches, a doctor, a physio and two translators.

"England was the only country I wanted to work in. The aim is to get them out of trouble," he told BBC Radio Oxford.

Oxford chairman Firoz Kassam said: "He is a friend of a friend and has come in for six months to get me out of a hole."

Darren Patterson, who has been in temporary charge, will remain part of the backroom staff.

Diaz, who played 24 times for his country, including in the 1982 World Cup, was recently linked with the QPR job.
