Moody calls it a day
Paul Moody in action for Millwall in 1999
Moody joined Oxford from Millwall
Oxford United striker Paul Moody has decided to call time on his career with the U's.

Moody scored 74 goals in two spells with the club but won't be kicking off the new season at the Kassam Stadium.

He said: "It was my decision really. I have been struggling with the training and the travelling and I simply haven't been enjoying it all like I used to.

"I would just like to say a massive thank-you to the fans, who have been brilliant to me during both spells at the club.

"I did get a bit of stick from some quarters towards the end of last season, but that was probably deserved."

Moody still finished last season as Oxford's leading scorer with 13 goals in Division Three following his arrival from Millwall last September to take his League career tally past 100.

The 34-year-old may play on and is turning out in pre-season for Havant and Waterlooville, where he started his career before moving to Southampton, Oxford, Fulham, Millwall and then Oxford again.

And he hopes to see the U's start to climb back up the League in the absence.

"I think the manager has brought in some good players over the summer and I really hope the club gets back where it belongs," he told the club's website.
