Robinson struggled for first-team action at Reading

Oxford United boss Ian Atkins has further strengthened his defence with the capture of full-back Matt Robinson from Reading.

The 27-year-old former Portsmouth and Southampton player follows Scott McNiven into the Kassam Stadium as Atkins continues his summer rebuilding.

Robinson started 62 League games for Reading after signing from Portsmouth for £150,000 in January 2000.

However, he had not figured in the first-team at the Majedski Stadium since last October and is delighted to have made a fresh start at Oxford.

"It's a great move for me. It's been a fairly unsettled time at Reading and I'm delighted to have joined a club like Oxford.

"There were one or two other clubs interested, but I came and saw the set-up here, spoke to Ian Atkins, and know there is real potential," Robinson told Oxford's website.
