U's let Thomas go
Oxford have released midfielder Martin Thomas as manager Ian Atkins continues to reshuffle his squad.
Signed by former Oxford manager Mark Wright from Brighton at the start of last season, the injury-troubled Thomas made just 14 appearances, scoring twice. "Martin was unlucky with injuries, because he was injured when I first arrived and then injured for the last month of the season," Atkins told the club's website. "He is the only one who hasn't had a real chance to stake a claim. "I have been talking to lots of players already, and they have all had something to offer, but I will only sign players who are right for the club and will take us forward. "I would like to think that by the start of the season we will have anywhere between 6 and 10 new faces at the club, and those new players will definitely make us a better side." Meanwhile Rob Quinn thinks he failed to show manager Ian Atkins what he was capable of during his time at the club. The 25-year-old had his contract terminated last week after talks with U's boss Atkins. Quinn told the Oxford Mail: "I think in truth I frustrated him because he knows I can do a lot better than I did with him in charge. "I decided in the long run that If I'm not going to figure in the team it's better if I go."
