Oldham player-manager Paul Dickov wants defender Jean-Yves Mvoto to return to the club permanently next season.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is currently at Boundary Park on a season-long loan deal from Sunderland.

Dickov told the club website: "There might be more attractive offers financially, but I have told Jean the most important thing is to be playing.

"We will look after Jean and the pleasing thing is there are positive signs from both him and his agent."

Sunderland have already told Mvoto that he will not be offered a new contract at the end of the season, so will be available on a free transfer.

"He is improving all the time and a lot of people forget he is still only 22 and in his first full season," Dickov added.

"Jean is a big player for us and we are doing all we can to keep hold of him next season.

"I speak to Jean a lot about football and non-football matters and the biggest thing for us is to give him a comfortable environment, both on and off the pitch.

"Jean has loved his time here and he has mixed in fantastically well with the group of boys and he likes it here."

Mvoto returned to Sunderland for two months after damaging ankle ligaments but rejoined the Latics in March.

"Of course I am interested. Me and my agent are open to offers, but I am focusing on Saturday," Mvoto said.

"We will have to wait and see what happens in May and June because I think we will be talking."
