Paul Dickov says Sean Gregan can leave Oldham Athletic

Oldham player-manager Paul Dickov has confirmed that he is willing to let club captain Sean Gregan leave.

The 36-year-old missed the start of the season through injury and has been unable to force his way into the side.

Dickov told BBC Radio Manchester: "He's a senior pro and I'm not going to stop him going if he wants to leave.

"I've been there myself the last couple of years and you want to play football and if it's not happening at one place you want to play somewhere else."

He added: "Shaun wants to play and he's looking at the team at the minute and he's seeing Jean-Yves (Mvoto), Ruben (Hazell) and Jason (Jarrett) are ahead of him."

Gregan joined Oldham in 2007 from Leeds United after a successful loan spell and has also spent time at Darlington, West Bromwich Albion and Preston North End.

Although he is yet to start a game this season, Gregan remains club captain and Dickov said this situation would only change should the defender leave Boundary Park.

"It depends what happens with Shaun if he stays he will be club captain; he's a good captain and he's good to have around the place," he said.

"Ruben's had the armband on the pitch since the start of the season and done a great job so we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."
