Oldham Athletic have offered utility player Jason Jarrett a six-month contract after a successful trial period at Boundary Park.
The 30-year-old midfielder is likely to be asked to play in defence in the absence of injured captain Sean Gregan.
The deal marks a return to the League One club for Jarrett after a 15-game loan move from Preston two years ago.
Manager Paul Dickov told the club website: "We have a very young team and Jason's experience helps us."
Jarrett was released by Port Vale in December 2009, having joined them on a short-term deal following his release by Brighton last summer.
