Gregan has also played for Leeds, Preston and Darlington
Oldham have re-signed defender Sean Gregan on a one-year deal, despite releasing him earlier this summer.
The ex-West Brom player, 35, becomes new boss Dave Penney's fourth signing, joining Rob Purdie, Jon Worthington and Joe Jacobson at Boundary Park.
He told BBC Radio Manchester: "The manager explained the reason I was released was purely financial.
"We've now agreed something and I'm just glad to be back and looking forward to getting on with pre-season."
"I don't know if I'm going to be captain again but obviously I was captain for the first period I was there so I would like to continue but that'll be down to the manager," he added.
"It's not as if I'm going into a new dressing room and a new set of fans - everybody knows me, so it'll be a smooth transition.
"Obviously, the manager's going to bring more players in. I think he wants to bring a younger squad in this time so hopefully we'll be able to stay the distance this season."
