Windass 'not returning to Oldham'

Dean Windass has said he will not play for Oldham again after playing a bit-part role in Athletic's last two games.

Windass, 39, was left out of the squad for Saturday's 3-2 win at Millwall and came on as an 89th-minute substitute in Monday's draw with Leeds.

In his online blog, Windass said: "In the last three days I feel promises that were made to me when I joined the club have not been kept.

"I've told the chairman I'm not returning, I feel let down and angry."

Windass joined the Latics from Premier League side Hull City on loan for the remainder of the season in January.

The former Bradford, Middlesbrough and Aberdeen striker said he thought he had come to an agreement with Oldham manager John Sheridan over his participation in the games with Millwall and Leeds.

"Last week Shezza said he would not be playing me in the games against Millwall on Saturday and Leeds on Monday," said Windass.

"It was a fair shout as the matches were in quick succession and so instead of sitting on the bench at the New Den, I told him to put a young lad in my place so he could get some appearance money.

"But my understanding of this was that I would then be involved against Leeds.

"However, this time I was stuck on the bench and only came on for the final few minutes which was embarrassing and insulting," he added.

I could be sitting on the bench at Hull City. In fact, if I had stayed I'd probably be playing by now

Windass has made 10 appearances for Oldham since moving to Boundary Park, including keeping a clean sheet in a 40-minute spell in goal during the 0-0 draw with Leicester in February.

"The manager's not said anything to me since Saturday so I'm at a total loss to understand what's happened. This is not what I signed up for," said Windass.

"I turned down three Championship clubs to play for Oldham. I did it as a favour to a mate but now I've been let down.

"What's the point of sitting on the bench for a League One club?

"I could be sitting on the bench at Hull City. In fact, if I had stayed I'd probably be playing by now."

Oldham Athletic have declined to comment on the matter.
