No bids for Hughes, says Sheridan

John Sheridan
Sheridan wants Hughes to remain focused on scoring goals for Oldham

Oldham Athletic boss John Sheridan has dismissed speculation linking striker Lee Hughes with a January move.

The 32-year-old has scored 13 goals this season for the Latics and had been rumoured to be interesting Doncaster.

"No club has come in for any of our players. He's very happy at the club," Sheridan told BBC Radio Manchester.

"I think we're trying to sort out a new contract out for him. I just want him to carry on and concentrate on what he's doing."

The club have offered Hughes a lucrative new two-year deal to stay at Boundary Park.

Sheridan hopes the former West Brom striker remains focused on hitting the target for the Latics.

"If he can carry on scoring goals I'm sure it'll put him even more in the spotlight," he said.

Hughes could be playing alongside Craig Davies after he was recalled from his loan spell at Stockport, where he has scored five goals in 13 appearances.

Sheridan is also in the hunt for a new goalkeeper, with first choice Mark Crossley out for three months with a hamstring injury.

Greg Fleming, 22, has started in goal for the Latics' last four games.
