Sheridan played in the 1993 FA Cup final for Sheffield Wednesday
Oldham Athletic manager John Sheridan agrees with supporters they should have beaten Cheltenham in the FA Cup.
The Latics lost the first round replay 1-0 at Boundary Park to crash out of the competition.
Sheridan, a cup finalist in 1993, told BBC Radio Manchester: "I expected to win the game, I think the fans expected us to get in to the next round.
"I can understand the frustration, we should be beating them at home, I'm right behind them, I agree with them."
The Oldham boss told the players after the defeat what he thought they did wrong.
He said: "I do tell them after the game between closed doors and hopefully they'll all benefit from it, no matter who they are - the oldest player in the team or the youngest."
Sheridan says the players now need to learn from the defeat if they are to fight for promotion to the Championship.
"I've got to try and make that happen. We're in a decent position in the league and we've got to try and carry on."
