Latics face further cutbacks
Chief executive Alan Hardy has confirmed Oldham can no longer sustain their weekly losses of £50,000.
Cutbacks have already been made across the board at Boundary Park on the advice of financial advisors called in by the club last October.
Hardy said: "There have already been cutbacks in administration staff and groundstaff, and five players who we felt were surplus to requirements were paid up and released. "November and December were relatively good months. We made progress in cup competitions and live television games brought in a reasonable amount of revenue. "But we are now in a situation where a loss of £50,000-a-week is still being accrued and we must look at reducing further our costs on the football side." Manager Iain Dowie is to review his backroom staff and report back to the board with his recommendations. And Hardy added: "Iain fully understands that our expenditure is far and above what it should be. "We cannot go on losing the amounts we are at present and have got to get down to a more realistic level."
