Notts County accept defeat in latest embargo bid

Notts County

Chief executive Jim Rodwell says Notts County are unlikely to get their transfer ban lifted until the summer.

The League Two side have twice tried to get the embargo overturned so they can add to their promotion-chasing squad.

Rodwell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "The embargo's in place and it will be in place until we get our salary cost management under control.

"But it will have to be lifted in the summer - we won't be allowed to continue in the same vein."

Rodwell admits it is difficult for the club to cut their wage bill until the end of the season.

He said: "Our ability to trade out is limited, we need to keep what we've got and we are pretty thin in terms of numbers.

"The reason the salary capping's there is to encourage clubs to become more prudent in their housekeeping and we need to get ours under control."
