Caretaker boss Dave Kevan extends Notts County deal

Notts County caretaker manager Dave Kevan has reluctantly accepted new chairman Ray Trew's offer to stay on until the end of the season.

Kevan, 41, has made it clear he does not want the job on a permanent basis.

But with Notts needing around £2.5m to survive until the end of the season, Trew wanted Kevan to fill in while he tries to bring stability to the club.

"I don't want to be manager but it's a case of carrying on as we are," Kevan told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"If that takes us to the end of the season then that's what it will be. I will do my best, work as hard as I can and I'm very happy to do that.

"It is a reluctant yes but I will give it my best and try to look after things.

"I've got no option really because I'm under contract at the football club. It's a case of having to get on with the job and that's what I'll do."

Trew had said on Tuesday that he was eager to retain Kevan, who was first-team coach at Meadow Lane, until at least the end of the season.

"Dave's record is fantastic so why change a winning formula?," Trew said.

The club are currently under a transfer embargo and the new owners have revealed new debts, bringing the total to £4m.
