Notts County future unclear for caretaker Dave Kevan

Notts County caretaker boss Dave Kevan believes the League Two club will make a permanent managerial appointment within the next week.

Kevan, who has no interest in taking on the job, was speaking after County came close to knocking Premier League Wigan Athletic out of the FA Cup.

"It's a big club and a big project and they're going to need an experienced manager to see that through," he said.

"Hopefully things will be resolved shortly in the next week or so."

The League Two club, who were leading Wigan 2-0 at half-time in their FA Cup fourth round tie, will face Wigan at the DW Stadium on 2 February after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Meadow Lane.

But prior to the FA Cup replay the Meadow Lane club have an even more important date with the tax man.

The League Two side have been served with a second winding up petition from HM Revenue & Customs and payment on this is due on Wednesday.

Chairman Peter Trembling says the Magpies are close to securing fresh investment with new backers set to be announced at some stage on Monday.

And Trembling insisted he is "95% certain" the club will have the funds to pay the tax bill.

County director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson has admitted the club's project to reach the Premier League is "on hold" as they seek new investment.

Despite the financial complications behind the scenes the club are currently ninth in League Two and the lowest-ranked side still remaining in this season's FA Cup.
