Sven-Goran Eriksson admits Notts County project on hold

Notts County director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson admits the club's project to reach the Premier League is "on hold" until new funding is agreed.

Eriksson hopes the League Two club's five-year plan to reach the top flight will be boosted in the next two weeks with an influx of fresh investment.

The Swede told BBC Radio 5 live: "There have been too many bad things at Notts County in the last six months.

"But hopefully in just a couple of weeks it'll take off again."

The former England coach was installed at Meadow Lane in July 2009 after the club's takeover by Munto Finance.

However, Peter Trembling took over from Munto in December and County are looking for investors to back their attempt to get to the Premier League.

Trembling, who is the Magpies' executive chairman, told BBC Radio Nottingham on 29 December: "We are making immense strides, a lot quicker than I thought we would do and dared hope.

"Hopefully we will be in a position to announce some news in seven days on that.

"Sven met with them three weeks ago and it's looking really good.

"We get an investor with significant amounts of cash who can put the money in straight away, and we can still look for the Premier League in five years.

"If we are going to the Premier League it's got to be £25m as a starting point.

"At Notts County we virtually have no debt. We're actually in a very good position.

"That is advantageous from a selling perspective and the fact that Sven's on board and has committed himself to the club is a huge bonus too."

Eriksson admitted on 5 live's Sportsweek he felt let down by the turmoil at the Meadow Lane club, but insists he remains committed to the cause.

"When I and a lot of people signed we strongly believed that everything which was said was true, and obviously it wasn't," he added.

"I still believe it is possible [to reach the Premier League] but what we need is money. It's not easy from where we are."

County have no manager at present, following Hans Backe's departure on 15 December after only seven weeks in charge.

Caretaker boss Dave Kevan has resumed control again, as he did after manager Ian McParland's sacking in October.
