Notts County manager Hans Backe resigns from his job

Hans Backe has stepped down as Notts County manager after just seven weeks in charge of the League Two club.

The 57-year-old Swede, installed as Ian McParland's successor on a three-year deal on 27 October, announced his decision before training on Tuesday.

Owner Peter Trembling told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's annoying, it's frustrating and we could have done without it, but we are not panicking."

Assistant manager Dave Kevan will take temporary control of the team.

Trembling, the former chairman, only completed his takeover of the club last week, acquiring County from Middle East owners Munto Finance in the latest twist at Meadow Lane.

He revealed that Backe had wanted to resign after Saturday's game, a 2-1 defeat against Accrington Stanley.

"The timing's not right for us or him because we've just restructured and there's a lot of positivity around the club," added Trembling.

"I told him if he waited until the middle of January we could be in a different position in terms of the league table and in terms of investment."

Backe had made it clear he wanted to sign new players when he arrived at Meadow Lane, but the necessary funds did not materialise from the previous owners.

Trembling suggested it was the failure to sign players during the emergency loan transfer window that had rankled the former FC Copenhagen and Aalborg BK boss.

"We all had frustrations with what happened before, but I had hoped he would be resolute and see the job through," said Trembling. "He doesn't want to do that."

When asked for his response to the takeover news last Thursday, Backe had told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I am rather calm about it. I have no problems with it.

"I just focus on the football and leave the other things to Peter Trembling. What can you do about it? I just take it easy."

Backe, who is a friend and former assistant to director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson, presided over just nine matches.

Trembling said work on securing Backe's permanent successor will begin at the weekend.

"The coaching staff we have in place are highly competent and more than capable of managing the ship and Sven is quite happy with that," he said.

"We've already got ideas as to what we want to do. Sven and I will sit down on Saturday and cement those and see what happens."
