Eriksson North Korea move denied

Notts County have denied that director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson is in talks with North Korea about becoming the country's new manager.

North Korea had reportedly wanted Eriksson to become their interim boss at next year's World Cup.

The 61-year-old joined Notts County in July having been sacked by Mexico.

"We wish to make it clear that Notts County have not received any approach from the North Korean FA," said club executive chairman Peter Trembling.

"It is correct that I am making a business trip to Asia but this is solely and exclusively on official Notts County business.

606: DEBATE

"I will be visiting Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Thailand to discuss a range of Notts County initiatives linked to our 150th anniversary - Project 2012.

"Sven is concentrating all his efforts and is totally focussed on the appointment of our new manager in succession to Ian McParland."

North Korea have qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

Eriksson managed England for six years and led them to three major tournaments before his sacking in 2006.

He later went on to manager Manchester City before joining Mexico in 2008.

However, he lasted less then a year and was sacked following a poor start to Mexico's World Cup qualifying campaign.

Despite being linked with a return to top-flight football he joined League Two Notts County in the summer.

In that time the club have sacked manager Ian McParland, signed and released defender Sol Campbell in the space of a month, while also being the subject of a football league inquiry following their takeover in July.
