Notts County fail in Lester bid

Chesterfield have rejected a bid of £50,000 from League Two rivals Notts County for star striker Jack Lester, and insist he is not for sale.

The 33-year-old has scored 50 times for the Spireites over the past two seasons, including 45 league goals.

"Jack is a big part of our plans. He's just signed a new contract and he is settled here," Chesterfield boss John Sheridan told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"Let me make it simple, we want Jack at our club so hands off. End of story."

The former Nottingham Forest striker only signed an extension to his contract at Chesterfield in June.

Of the initial bid, Magpies boss Ian McParland said: "He has been a prolific goalscorer over the years and by making a bid for him I think that shows we're ambitious.

"I've worked Jack in the past and I know him inside-out, so I just hope we can get him because he would fit the bill perfectly for us."

Notts were recently taken over by Munto Finance, and the new chairman Peter Trembling has promised to support the manager by investing in players.
