Thompson to remain club captain

Notts County

Notts County have announced that defender John Thompson will be the club's captain for the upcoming season.

The Irishman spent the end of last season with the armband, replacing former skipper Mike Edwards.

Manager Ian McParland said: "He did a great job for me during the back end of last season and he has a very important role to play."

Thompson made a permanent move to Meadow Lane in January, after an impressive loan spell from Oldham.
